Italian Cruise Ship Fires on Pirates.....
NAIROBI, Kenya (April 26) - An Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board fended off a pirate attack far off the coast of Somalia when its Israeli private security forces exchanged fire with the bandits and drove them away, the commander said Sunday. Read more......

MSC Fantasia hosts World leaders.....

MSC FANTASIA has been charted for G8 meeting in July by 8 of the world’s leaders; UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan and Russia will spend three days on the ship, discussing climate change and world poverty. The Italian government is hosting, with the meeting to be held on the Sardinian island of La Maddalena. The announcement a cruise ship will be used for the Group of Eight is attributed to Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, speaking in Brussels Friday.The actual meeting is scheduled for a former US Navy submarine base on the island, which was being renovated for the event (but has been the subject of a controversy involving environmental impact). The confab is scheduled July 8-10. Sophia Loren is Godmother of the 133,000-ton MSC Fantasia, flagship of the Italian line’s fleet, which was launched in 2008. Presumably, if they are onboard, the world leaders will occupy the ship’s fancy Yacht Club suites. Of course MSC Cruises USA President and CEO Rick Sasso had no comment on any of this. According to the MSC website, the ship is scheduled to be cruising from Barcelona on a Mediterranean itinerary that week.

L'AQUILA, Italy (AFP) – A violent earthquake jolted central Italy on Monday killing at least 100 people and injuring 1,500 as buildings and homes in a walled medieval town were reduced to rubble. Rescue workers quoted by the Italian news channel Sky TG-24 said the provisional death toll has risen to 100 "confirmed" deaths. More than 1,700 rescuers scrambled to find victims trapped under collapsed buildings in L'Aquila, the quake's epicentre, and officials warned the toll would rise. READ MORE......

FLOOD CONTROL - THE MOSE PROJECT
	Work is under way on one of the 78 giant gates to protect Venice from flooding. Rising sea levels due to climate change are causing more frequent floods in the city. Here, a mobile sea barrier is being constructed at the Malamocco inlet on the Venice lagoon. On the central canal in Venice, people have cemented ground-floor windows to protect against the floods. The machine does not just slip a frozen pizza into a microwave. It actually whips up flour, water, tomato sauce and fresh ingredients to produce a piping hot pizza in about three minutes...

The machine Mr. Torghele and his engineers produced is outfitted with little windows so the customer can watch the pizza being made. As in the Charlie Chaplin film “Modern Times” (in miniature and without Chaplin) wheels turn and gears grind. The customer presses a button to choose one of four varieties — margherita (plain cheese and tomato sauce), bacon, ham or fresh greens. A plastic container dumps flour into a drum resembling a tiny washing machine; a squirt of water follows, and the drum goes into a spin cycle, forming a blob of dough that is then pressed flat to form a 12-inch disk. Tomato paste is squirted onto the dough and cheese is added before it is lifted into a small infrared oven. The baked pizza then slips onto a cardboard tray and out into the customer’s waiting hands. Mr. Torghele says the pizza will cost as little $4.50, depending on the variety.
